Meet Porto:

Porto is a 5-year-old Miniature Schnauzer with the gentlest heart and the sweetest little soul. While much of his early life remains a mystery, we do know he came from a breeding situation where he experienced far more than any dog ever should.

Prior to coming into rescue, Porto was devocalized—an illegal procedure that reduces the volume of a dog's bark by altering their vocal cords. Although his bark doesn't sound quite like it should, it's still very much there. Instead of a typical bark, he lets out plenty of raspy barks and howls that are uniquely him. 💙

Porto is a sensitive boy who can startle easily, so he's looking for a patient, understanding family who will let him settle in at his own pace. He'll need a calm, 16 year old + home where he feels safe and secure. Because fear can cause him to bolt, a secure, fully fenced yard is essential for his safety.

Porto absolutely needs another gentle, confident dog in his forever home. Having a canine companion gives him comfort, helps build his confidence, and shows him that the world can be a safe and happy place. He also gets along beautifully with cats.

As a Miniature Schnauzer, Porto will require regular professional grooming throughout his life—and he's an absolute superstar for his haircuts! He stands beautifully and takes the whole grooming process in stride.

Once Porto trusts you, his affectionate side shines. He loves to snuggle close, gently melts into your arms, and gives the sweetest soft little kisses.

The most magical part is watching Porto discover what it means to simply be a dog. He's learning that toys are fun, bully sticks and yak chews are delicious, and that the world isn't such a scary place after all. Every little milestone is a huge victory.

With love, patience, a secure fenced yard, and a canine best friend by his side, Porto has all the potential to blossom into the most loyal, gentle, and deeply loving companion. Whoever earns his trust won't just be adopting a dog—they'll be gaining a truly special little soul. 🐾

Surrender

At Rosie Animal Adoption, we know surrendering a dog is hard, and the dog’s wellbeing comes first. Please be cautious: unaltered dogs are often targeted by backyard breeders and puppy mills, where conditions are inhumane.

Our volunteers receive many urgent requests, and with the rise of homeless dogs in Quebec, openings aren’t always immediate. Please be patient—we’ll help as quickly as we can and may refer you to partner groups.

Most important: never give away or sell an unaltered dog, especially “free to a good home.” Spay or neuter your pet before rehoming to protect them.
