Canelle

A Female Schnauzer Available for Adoption

   Animatch

Canelle is a 5-year-old little lady who is learning the ropes of being a well-loved companion after retiring from being a mama to litters. She is a velcro dog to humans and will seek you out. She is calm, super smart, quick to catch on, and happy in her crate for a few hours at a time (her foster is doing so to keep her safe while out) and to sleep. As she is getting used to a new home, she needs understanding, patience, and a family that will show her the way. She doesn’t yet know how to walk on a leash or basic commands, but with the right home and warmer weather, she will be sure to catch on and love it.

She currently seeks to be picked up, which is why an experienced home that will treat her like a dog and not a toy is important, so she can gain confidence and become a happy, well-balanced dog. Canelle does take a little time to come out of her shell, but she gives love right away and trusts all humans she has met to date.

Canelle is very curious and follows her nose, so a completely fenced yard will be important. Due to her small size, supervision in the yard is required at all times. She has met several dogs and will growl to warn new dogs to give her space, which is why being the only dog is best. She may accept a very calm dog like her current foster’s resident dog; however, she still only has eyes for her humans. She has quickly learned that by stretching her head up, she gets the perfect under-the-chin scratches. She knows where the best spot on the couch is (right next to another warm body), can navigate stairs, and is clean in the house as long as other dogs haven’t marked. She doesn’t yet know how to tell you when she needs to go out, so a routine will be important.

Mandatory Needs:

At only 5 years old, she has many years to give and hopefully will have a decade or more of love to give.

• Someone Home Most of the Day: It’s very important that someone in the household is home and has the patience to continue showing her how to be a companion dog. At least one person who works from home or is home most of the day is ideal.

• Detached Living Space: She is very quiet 90% of the time, but she has a loud bark and will definitely be heard by neighbours; therefore, a detached home is required. She also doesn’t quite know when it’s okay to stop barking once she starts—she just thinks it’s the thing to do.

• Experience with Dogs: Canelle will need a home with dog experience and training so she can continue to learn with confidence. She needs someone experienced and/or willing to take her to classes, as she likes to roam and, at only 5 years old, would absolutely enjoy living her life with walks.

• Fenced-in Yard: A completely fenced-in yard where she can safely get her zoomies out.

We do not adopt strays to families with children under 12, and all family members must be present at adoption.

Surrender

At Rosie Animal Adoption, we know surrendering a dog is hard, and the dog’s wellbeing comes first. Please be cautious: unaltered dogs are often targeted by backyard breeders and puppy mills, where conditions are inhumane.

Our volunteers receive many urgent requests, and with the rise of homeless dogs in Quebec, openings aren’t always immediate. Please be patient—we’ll help as quickly as we can and may refer you to partner groups.

Most important: never give away or sell an unaltered dog, especially “free to a good home.” Spay or neuter your pet before rehoming to protect them.
